Middle Police Investigate 2 Accidents Involving Drivers Overdosing

On January 13th, 2017, the Middle Township Police Department responded to two (2) motor vehicle accidents which involved drivers suspected of overdosing while driving. 
The first accident occurred on Route 47 at the intersection of Railroad Avenue in the Rio Grande Section of the Township at approximately 11:22 AM.  The investigation revealed that Jerimiah Craver, age 61, of the Villas was stopped at a red light on Route 47 in his 2006 Dodge Dakota when he was rear ended by Philip King, age 38,  of Burleigh, who was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang.  Upon officers arriving on scene, they found King to be incoherent.  Suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle driven by King who was transported to the Cape Regional Medical Center by Middle Township EMS due to the possible overdose.  Rio Grande Fire and Atlanticare Medics assisted at the scene.  King was ultimately charged with the following:  Assault by Auto, 4th degree, Possession of CDS, 3rd degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, disorderly persons offense, Possession of a Hypodermic Needle, disorderly persons offense, DWI and 3 other motor vehicle offenses.  King was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.  Ptl. Julio Ruiz investigated.
The second accident occurred on East Shellbay Avenue in the Mayville Section of the Township at approximately 5:51 PM.  The investigation revealed John Stanton, age 22 of North Wildwood was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram west bound when he ran off the roadway and struck a tree.  Class II Kirk Rohrer and Patrolman Michael Reardon arrived on scene and found Stanton to be unresponsive.  Based on symptoms seen by officers it was believed Stanton had overdosed.  CPR was started by the officers and a dose of Narcan was administered which helped revive Stanton.  Atlanticare Medics arrived and Stanton was transported to the Cape Regional Medical Center by Middle Township EMS due to the overdose.  Court House Fire also assisted at the scene.  Stanton was charged with DWI and 3 other motor vehicle offenses.  Class II Officer Rohrer investigated.
